ACA Sign Up Project

Expect a lot of junk plans from other sources.
A couple of years ago, a group of individuals started the ACA Signup Project. I have helped out at Suzie Health Solutions and have been teaching and enrolling people in healthcare since 2013. There was a great concern that the incoming President would slash funds for the outreach and attempt to sabotage the Affordable Care Act which he campaigned against. Yes, he promised to "Repeal Obamacare from Day 1". Well it is still here and we are always looking forward to more friends joining the outreach effort. Here are some tools that will help.

We have made huge improvements
In Washington State we have made some huge gains and we are working on making more. We are up to one in four people receiving their healthcare from the Washington Healthplanfinder. It is open year round for enrollment of people that are at 138% of poverty or affiliated with a Native American Tribe. Some of the rural counties of Eastern Washington, we are over 40% using the Healthplanfinder! You are also eligible for documented reasons such as losing coverage from work, changing addresses and your plan no longer covers you, etc. After seven years of enrollments, we literally tell everyone to enroll now and see what the results are. Healthcare is complicated and the results often surprise the applicant.

Open Enrollment is November 1st through December 15th!

Even if you are an expert in healthcare, get someone to double check your plan. Healthcare is complicated. There are two groups out there assisting people. Navigators and Brokers.

Navigators are paid an hourly rate by corporations to enroll people. The last that we checked, the company's that pay Navigator's  income are paid by the number of plans that they manage with a bonus on how many they enroll during open enrollment. They will often be attached to health providers and their billing departments. They are not licensed and can not recommend health plans.
good share
Brokers can be paid by companies that they are affiliated with and can charge a fee. Brokers are the small business service component of healthcare. Unlike Navigators, the brokers are not compensated using tax dollars and the Washington Healthplanfinder. This is one of the primary reasons why the State Auditor's office recommended increasing the use of Brokers.  Not all insurance companies will have commissions through a year and some such as Apple Health do not compensate at all. In order to keep Broker's doors open, most offer additional products and some charge fees. Some states have started requiring commissions on every plan from their health exchanges to encourage broker participation and places for people to receive help.

The Healthplanfinder put together Enrollment Centers four years ago to improve outreach and customer satisfaction. Suzie Health Solutions has achieved that contract for three years. These Enrollment Centers are spread across the state. They are easy accessible spaces with Wi-fi. The staff have to go through additional background checks and extra security measures are put into place for personal data.  A person can walk in and get help with out being charged a fee! Here is the list:

We recommend always selecting a no charge broker as it builds out the network and provides a community resource. It also gets you access to additional products if you choose to fill in coverage gaps. Spend the 1 minute to select a broker of record. Here is the simple instructions on how I selected mine

The gig economy and life insurance

It takes minutes Temporary work, contract jobs, seasonal jobs, freelance, piece work, driving for Uber, selling on Etsy, etc. The gig economy has been around for ever. Whether it is picking apples for the season, working the slopes at mission ridge, to being a contractor at a server farm it is easy to fall into a gig career path. About a third of the American workforce has found themselves bouncing from short term job to short term job. While the pay can be good temporary, what about the long term? A policy for everyone When was the last time that you met someone that retired after working from the same job for 40 years? On average, you will change jobs times 12 times in your lifetime. What happens if the next company doesn't offer a plan? We have seen companies terminate life insurance policies for retirees. Do really want to leave your family high and dry for a short term job? What happens when you die? Your bills don't go away . A majority of adults say a fu

Most of that will be outside of Open Enrollment period which runs usually from November 1st through December 15th.  People are setting appointments year round  so that we can travel to outreach events around the state to assist in education and enrollments.  Yes, CHIP payments are restarting Key resources are the Enrollment Centers . Our office moved to 413 N Mission street a few months ago if you want assistance in Central Washington we can do phone, online and in person appointments . The reason that we reco

Medicare Advantage, Supplement and Drug Plans from a local office.

We do a lot of work with the Washington Healthplanfinder as an Enrollment Center for Healthcare. Seriously, we are open year round answering questions and enrolling people in healthcare. When Suzie first started transitioning from being a Pharmacy Technician, she wanted to lead helping Medicare Individuals with their plans.  Yes, we assist people with Medicare. We stock materials Medicare Advantage, Supplement and Drug plans so that we can help with questions at our office in Wenatchee for your initial enrollment. Most people can enroll into Medicare plans 3 months before their 65 th Birthday, the month of and 3 months after their Birthday. Folks also can delay enrollment if they are covered by   plan through work. We can do a lot over the phone however sometimes there is nothing like having a complete enrollment packet in your fingertips. We like to take the time to do it correctly and it is not a problem to answer questions through the year. The best part is that we can as
