Mandates and Vaccination are as American As Apple Pie

We enroll people into health insurance. Over the last year plus, we have also had to battle with COVID restrictions. We were one of the fortunate small businesses in that we could help people remotely and we had most of the internal protocols ready because of a Tuberculosis exposure a few months earlier. There are 11 enrollment centers located through the state, we just happen to be in Wenatchee.

It wasn't until May, that we noticed something. A local Health district published the vaccination rate by zip code. When we started looking at the vaccine hesitancy they have an commonality. It is not a real surprise because both are created in a similar fashion for people to operate in a destructive, toxic fashion. We have fought that disinformation wall for nine years. We know that there are a ton of our neighbors sitting in the center that will leave it for friends and family to pick up after they followed bad information.

When you are in the country then you will probably recognize some signs. You might have had to pass the hat to pay for a funeral or medical expenses. You would have had to keep working because you are sick to pay the bills. You might trick your truck to run like garbage and blow some coal. You might confuse being edgy with having character. You might have forgotten that character matters. You might have to say the same thing as everyone around you out of fear. That isn't the America that we grew up in. It is going to take more than suggestions to get back.

Vaccines and Mandates are apple pie American. While George Washington was fighting the Redcoats, he was also fighting smallpox. The winter of 1778 was make extra miserable for the troops because everyone was inoculated.  It takes big moves to win a war and that is what the father of our nation did. For some of us we can make big moves, vaccinate and be masked up for months to protect our community. There is a ton of history on pandemics in America including when 3 Anti Maskers were shot in 1918. Nothing stopping you from looking beyond the last five years.

What about if you are in a toxic relationship.  Not everyone can roll up their sleeves and tell someone no, today is not the day to die with a preventable illness. You know where one person threatens another to control their lives? What about if you don't want to deal with the hassle of your buddies making fun of you for protecting yourself and your family?

Here are some options.

1. Wear a disguise

2. You can be defiant. Get it and keep it secret from your parents.

3. You can band together and make it a team effort. Seriously, check out Teens for Vaccines

Mandates-

One big question is can schools mandate being vaccinated? The answer is that it takes state legislators and state health officials to make a school mandate happen for K-12. However many Colleges and Universities already are requiring it for the Fall Quarter.

How about employers? We are seeing a host of companies start to apply mandates for workers. Government departments such as the Veterans Administration. Healthcare system. There is not a company out there that can afford to do random shutdowns for infected employees or customers. It is bad business.

How about going into businesses? Well restaurants are starting to catch on, if you want to dine inside then you need to prove that you are vaccinated. It is worldwide as they were hit hard in 2020 and do not want a repeat. In New York, the restaurants have to deal with hate reviews from the unvaccinated. Georgia's Argosy adopted a "No Vax, No Service" policy.

Can you be asked if you are vaccinated? The short answer is that there is no HIPAA violation for asking. The information surrounding this is so bad there is even joke groups about HIPPA violations. Businesses can ask away and as long as they make reasonable accommodations can keep you picking up on the curb.

If you are ready to get vaccinated then here is the link for Washington State.

We can get through this together. Sometimes, it does require tough answers.
